A solution for sustainable transport
Biorefinery Östrand will have a production capacity of 185,000 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel and 50,000 tonnes of naphtha.

The products themselves consist of the same carbon chains as their fossil fuel counterparts and perform equally well in combustion engines. The key distinction lies in the origin of these fuels. While fossil products release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, our biofuels are derived from forest by-products.
Replacing fossil fuels with biofuels is crucial to reducing carbon dioxide emissions. By utilizing by-products from the forest industry, such as sawdust and bark, we contribute to a sustainable cycle where fossil carbon remains in the ground and forests continue to grow and absorb carbon dioxide. This strategy aligns well with our commitment to environmental responsibility and ensures a greener future for the industry and the planet.
Before the products are made available on the market, Biorefinery Östrand AB will ensure its products, including the feedstock supply chains, have the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC).

SAF: a game-changing solution for air transport
Electrification is rapidly advancing for land vehicles. However, electrifying aircraft that need to cover long distances—such as transatlantic flights—remains challenging. Biorefinery Östrand aims to address this by having a production capacity of 185,000 tonnes of SAF, providing the aviation industry with a more sustainable alternative to Jet A1 fuel.
The aviation industry aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Without sustainable aviation fuels, this goal is unattainable. Biorefinery Östrand will play a crucial role in supporting the industry's efforts to reach this ambitious goal.

Naphtha: a useful biofuel component
Naphtha is used as a biofuel component in the road transport sector and as a compound in the chemical industry. We also see the potential to offer the plastics industry a more sustainable, renewable alternative to replace fossil raw materials with renewable naphtha.
